Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
The 2017 Santa Rosa is a similar blend as the 2016—35% Monastrell, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 15% Shiraz—aged in new and second use 225-liter oak barrels for 16 months. It’s very Mediterranean and mineral with notes of herbs and graphite, with a lot less oak than in the past, coming through as spicy with an herbal touch. Like its siblings, it has good body but it’s not aggressive, the extraction is controlled and they avoid harsh tannins. It has a creamy touch in the palate, and it has weight but is balanced. 30,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2019.
