Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
The varietal Merenzao 2018 MRZ is a bright ruby color, pale like the Brancellao but with a lighter and livelier color. It also has the most delicate nose of the red varietal bottlings—perfumed and floral, elegant and insinuating. The palate is medium-bodied and weightless, with very fine tannins, delicate flavors and great balance. Awesome stuff! All of these varietal reds were produced in the same way—fermented in a granite open pool ‘lagar’ with indigenous yeasts and matured in used 500-liter oak barrels with the lees for eight months—to really see the varietal differences in a transparent way. There are only 600 bottles of this.
