Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
The Carignan-dominated Gauby 2010 Cotes du Roussillon Villages La Foun – for more on whose site and vines, consult my accompanying review of the 2011 – is scented with hickory and walnut, adumbrating the piquancy that inflects its deeply concentrated, lightly-cooked blackberry and mulberry fruit. Smokiness akin to Latakia tobacco in the nose and bittersweet dark chocolate on the palate lend sinister complexity, but there is nowhere near the strikingly mineral dimension or energy here that are found in the corresponding 2011. I suspect this will however well reward attention through at least 2022.
