Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
The juicy, young and fruit-driven 2017 La Zarcita is a blend of Trincadeira Preta, Touriga Nacional and Garnacha Tintorera from vines planted in 2003 on clay and limestone soils. It fermented in stainless steel vats with indigenous yeasts followed by malolactic and spent eight months in a combination of well-seasoned 500-liter French oak barrels, 5,000-liter oak vats and concrete tanks. The oak is very integrated and neatly folded into the fruit, with notes of ripe fruit in the foreground, black rather than red, but without excess. It has a medium-bodied palate and fine, slightly dusty tannins. Very pleasant. 30,000 bottles produced.
