Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
The ripeness of the 2019 vintage is more noticeable in the red 2019 Peña El Gato Garnacha, which has a very Mediterranean profile of aromatic herbs and ripe black fruit, even though the palate is more austere and the chalky texture seems to provide a more balanced mouthfeel. This comes from extremely old vines and hit the scale at 15.5% alcohol with a healthy pH of 3.35. So, it’s powerful, round and lush but fresh. The destemmed grapes fermented in new 500-liter French oak barrels, where the wine was kept with the fermentation lees for 11 months. 3,150 bottles produced. It was bottled in September 2020.
