Description
Roca del Crit is a red wine produced by the Gallina de Piel winery under the D.O. Empordá with a combination of Grenache Noir and Carignan grape varieties from vineyards by the Mediterranean Sea.
The Grenache grape variety comes from the Mas Marés area, has an average age of 15 years and is planted on granitic soils.
The Carignan grape variety, on the other hand, comes from the Rabós area, and its average age is over 80 years old and it is planted on slate soils.
Winemaking
After the harvest, both varieties are fermented and aged separately before final blending. The Grenache is vinified in stainless steel tanks and 10% is fermented with stems and aged on its lees for 6 months. The Carignan is also fermented in stainless steel and aged for 12 months in used barrels of different sizes, from 500 to 700 litres.
Taste
Roca del Crit has a fruity expression that blends very well with various hints of liquorice. On the palate it is elegant, full, long and persistent.
A wine that evokes vivid memories
The name, Roca del Crit, in David Seijas’ own words, refers to a secluded place between cliffs near El Bulli where he used to go to unburden himself when he was overwhelmed by the pressure of work. Therefore, this surprising wine brings to mind those moments of making his dreams of creating his own wine come true.
On a gastronomic level, it is the perfect accompaniment to dishes such as rice dishes with meat, sausages, pasta with meat sauce and roasts, among others.
