Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
The impressive red 2018 Sílice Tinto has to be the finest vintage to date of their entry-level wine, a super-drinkable and in this case aromatic, open, showy and floral red produced with 80% Mencía, 18% other red varieties such as Albarello (also known as Brancellao), Garnacha Tintorera (a.k.a. Merenzao) and even 2% white grapes from a mixture of older and younger vineyards on sandy soils with some slate. It fermented with 20% full clusters in a stainless steel vat with indigenous yeasts and 15 days of maceration. It spent nine months in an old oak foudre, stainless steel and concrete. It’s only 12.5% alcohol, and in this cooler vintage, it feels very young but approachable; the palate is weightless but has energy, very fine tannins and very focused and fresh flavors, like biting into a bunch of grapes. 16,838 bottles and 100 magnums produced. It was bottled in August 2019.
